What are the benefits of conservation and nature in an urban city?  Conservation of nature means the protection of species and ecosystems from harm or extinction. As stewards of Dallas’s largest public green space, the 10,000 acres of the Trinity River Corridor, maintaining and restoring habitats, protecting biological diversity, and preventing water pollution, is an important part of Harold Simmons Park. We will unite the city with nature, while protecting the ecosystem.

Mental Health Benefits

Access to nature is essential for humans and has an impact on our mental health. It helps reduce stress, depression, and loneliness while improving concentration, creativity, and happiness. It is particularly beneficial for children and older people.

Physical Benefits

Parks are places of respite and joy in the middle of bustling cities, and  extremely valuable resources for improving our health and physical condition. Access to nature is linked to increased physical activity, lower rates of chronic disease, and longer lives. Urban green spaces also reduce the heat island effect, capture carbon, and improve air quality, making it safer and healthier to spend time outdoors.

Social Benefits

Along with improved mental and physical health, access to nature creates improved social relationships and a strengthened sense of community.  Research links time spent in nature with decreases in one’s negative behaviors and an increase in more positive behavior, can help us connect more deeply with others, and build positive relationships.
